Henry vetoes pro-life bill; override follows

Supporters of an omnibus pro-life bill moved quickly in the Oklahoma State Senate and House of Representatives April 17 to override an April 16 veto of the measure by Gov. Brad Henry. The Senate voted 37-11 to override the governor's veto of Senate Bill 1878, which had passed the Senate April 9 by a vote of 38-10. The House then followed suit, overwhelmingly approving the override by a vote of 81-15.

Why is it that the BGCO saw fit to honor the governor at Falls Creek and award him a chair in the brand new auditorium and then have the pastors and leaders in attendance come forward and pray for the governor as if we were commissioning him or giving our blessing? The truly unfortunate thing is that we did it in front of five to seven thousand students. We normalized a bad legislator in a power play to gain influence in the state.

"Amen" Jacob Snodgrass! I agree totally with your comment. The present day church has become diluted and lukewarm thanks to the craftiness of Satan. Sin runs blatant in our churches today and we cannot even recognize it. Our Governor has shed a dim light on Southern Baptist and on Christians as a whole. He helped to usher in the lottery and and he cannot even stand against abortion, which is cold-blooded murder. God made plans for each of our lives before we were ever conceived. He gives mankind his/her individual spirit at the moment of conception. At that moment a precious human being has been miraculously made. How dare any of us do anything, except to do all that we can to usher in and care for this precious gift from God. It is time for God's true church to stand up and begin initiating discipline in efforts to protect and prolong it's ministry for the sake of reaching the "lost" for Christ. Mr. Henry's home church should, out of love for him and love for God, enlighten him to the fact that abortion is killing an innocent life and then give him time to petition God and make things right. If he chooses not to repent then his church should ex-communicate him from the fellowship (Politics should never supersede God). Assuming that his church is a part of the SBC, and if his church fails to confront this problem then the BGCO needs to confront this situation in a loving and respectful manner. If this effort fails then the home church of Mr. Henry should be removed from our list of participating churches and be no longer recognized as such. Jesus paid the price for "all" sin, whether it is abortion or gossiping, whether it is over-eating or gambling, whether it is neglecting to do what is right or putting our will over God's will, whether it is allowing the body to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, or not loving your neighbor as yourself, etc. Christians must be set apart from the world. There must be a definite distinction between worldly (the lost) people and those that are truly saved. If Christians talk, lie, cheat, consume alcohol, allow abortion, vote for those that promote and facilitate abortion, gossip, promote dissention, and gamble like the world does, then how are the lost people of this world going to see a difference in the life of Christians as compared to their own life. I know that I am a sinner that was and is saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus. I consider myself to be the least of all. I'm sure that my sins and imperfections greatly outweigh that of Gov. Henry along with the other six plus billion people that reside on this planet that we call Earth. We are to pray for and admonish one another (Helping to keep each other on the straight and narrow path) as we strive to further God's kingdom. May God greatly bless Gov. Henry and may the Gov. utilize his position to promote life from conception to dust.
