A good beginning for Christians would be a thorough reading of "The Cost of Discipleship" by Bonhoeffer and the great works of C.S. Lewis. When the church began dumbing down its message to gain numbers and saw politics as a means to an end it effectively embarked on a pseudo-Christian ethos. It is going to take decades to undo the damage caused by internal strife and the belief that the political process creates societal change. Therefore the church at large must ask itself if it is nothing more than a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. We must remember, Jesus did not ask Zacchaeus to change, Zacchaeus changed because of his encounter with Jesus--where he met grace, not judgment.
