With the help of his sending church, Muskogee, First, Alexander Montero is planting Muskogee, First Hispanic. He primarily serves the Hispanic population of Muskogee. His work includes personal evangelism and discipleship, home Bible studies, preaching God’s Word, conducting prayer services and pastoral counseling. He finds joy in knowing he is obeying God’s call to plant a Hispanic church in Muskogee and watching as He provides.
“In coming to Muskogee, a great need for which I prayed was to have a good core group who would support us as we began the work,” Alexander said. “The Lord sent a young pastor, who spoke English and Spanish perfectly—someone who sought me out because the Lord put in his heart the desire to join a missionary who was planting a Hispanic church in the area in which he lived. With him, a good core group began to form in the first three months of our church plant.”
Ethnic church planters in the U.S. often have obstacles to overcome that native planters do not have, such as lack of language fluency and the religious traditions people bring from their countries of origin. Add to these the fact that most people work long hours to provide for their families, leaving little time for spiritual matters, and ministry is hard.
But Alexander is encouraged because he knows he is squarely in God’s will.
“I know I am obeying the call the Lord gave me to come to Muskogee,” he said, “and He is supporting us with the help and guidance of His Holy Spirit and provision. It is very rewarding to see people accept Christ and want to grow in their Christian lives.”
Please pray for the physical, emotional and spiritual health of Alexander and his wife, Lastenia. Pray the Lord will add to the church those who are to be saved. Pray also that the Lord will cause a movement of prayer, evangelism and discipleship that makes Muskogee a city of peace.
