SEMINOLE—Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief (DR) continues to help people in Seminole and surrounding area recover from the May 4 tornadic storms. Last Saturday, May 7, members from different Oklahoma Baptist churches offered their time to serve those affected by the storms.
The churches represented in the Saturday cleanup and meal service include Seminole, First; Seminole, Harvey Road; Seminole, Zion; and Shawnee, Sharon.
DR is serving through feeding teams and chainsaw teams, as well as providing chaplains and assessors. Don Williams, state DR director, reported a member of the chaplain/assessor team prayed with a man who made a profession of faith in Christ.
“We are encouraged with the progress happening in Seminole, and having Oklahoma Baptist churches involved has been a big help in the recovery,” Williams said. “Disaster Relief will remain in Seminole until we can meet all the requests for help. Our goal is always to offer help, healing and hope while sharing the love of Jesus.”
As of Monday morning, May 9, DR has received 57 requests for help from homeowners. The feeding team is preparing nearly 900 meals each day with three Oklahoma Baptist churches involved in distributing the meals. Seminole, First, which is currently used as DR command center, is serving two nursing homes and the area hospital.
Williams said DR is expected to be in Seminole through the week and possibly next week. He also reported DR will be serving in Okmulgee and Muskogee with mud-out teams helping those affected by recent flooding.
