Andy Harrison’s mom led him to put his trust in Jesus when he was 7. In high school, he was mentored at Sapulpa, First by John Hatfield, a fellow church member, who was working to become a campus leader for The Navigators.
It was through Hatfield that Harrison acquired the habits of prayer, Scripture memory and Bible reading, which, he said, continues to this day.
“The things that keep my relationship strong with the Lord are my connection with His Word and staying connected to a body of local believers,” Harrison said. He’s a member at Pauls Valley, Trinity. Married to Kim for nearly 38 years, he’s the dad of three and Pappaw to 1-year-old Henry.
When he’s not with his family, at camp or following his beloved Razorbacks, Harrison serves Oklahoma Baptists as director of the Conference Centers at Falls Creek and CrossTimbers.
He’s held that position since January 2019, but has been participating in one way or another at Falls Creek since the summer after his seventh-grade year.
Three months after he became Conference Centers director, the COVID pandemic squashed summer plans. The staff, which lost eight people because of financial issues, focused on opening the campgrounds in a safe and measured way and working on a variety of maintenance tasks that didn’t require heavy expenditures.
These tasks included emptying Baptist Lake of water and clearing silt and debris from Baptist Lake; relocating 93 dumpsters to help beautify the campus; stripping and re-staining the West End Coffee Shop; plus “a bunch of electrical work and maintenance on the facilities,” Harrison said.
“The most troubling part about last summer, and really last year, was not having people on the grounds like we usually do, to see and hear the Gospel,” Harrison said. “That’s why we exist, so campers can hear from the Lord and respond to Him.”
Because of the generous giving of Oklahoma Baptists through the Cooperative Program, an amazing array of ministries are supported. This unified giving encourages fellowship with other believers all over the world. Collectively, Oklahoma Baptists are advancing the Gospel together.
