Oklahoma Baptist University’s Henry F. McCabe Family School of Education has again achieved great success in preparing classroom-ready teachers.
On the Praxis Performance Assessment for Teachers (PPAT) exam for 2023-24, OBU’s students outperformed state averages. Data from ETS highlights the exceptional performance of OBU students across various education programs.
There were 48 examinees this academic year, including traditional undergraduate teacher education candidates and graduate students in the Alternative Certification and Credentialing for Elementary and Secondary Schools (ACCESS) program. OBU’s combined pass rate is 97.92%. The state pass rate is 79.68%. Also impressive is the fact that while the passing score is 38 and the state average is 38.67, OBU’s average score is 43.31.
“These outstanding results not only reflect OBU’s commitment to high-quality teacher preparation but also position its graduates as competent educators ready to make significant contributions to classrooms across Oklahoma and beyond,” said Dr. Elizabeth Justice, Chair of the Henry F. McCabe Family School of Education and co-director of the ACCESS Program. “I want to also thank Dr. Rebecca Farley for her tireless support of our student teachers and ACCESS students in preparation for this critical exam.”
OBU’s undergraduate programs cover a wide range of fields, including early childhood, elementary, special education, art, English, mathematics, music, science, social sciences, Spanish and theatre education. The faculty boasts a combined experience of over 100 years in public school education.
The ACCESS program equips individuals pursuing alternative certification in elementary or secondary education for the state of Oklahoma. For more information about OBU’s ACCESS program, go to okbu.edu/access.
