In the aftermath of severe storms and multiple tornadoes that did damage in areas across Oklahoma on the night of Feb. 26, Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief (DR) volunteers sprang into action to offer help and hope.
From Cheyenne to Norman to Shawnee, as well as areas of the state, Oklahoma Baptist DR’s trained volunteers were already assessing storm damage and helping in other ways by the next morning.
“We are here to help our neighbors in need, serving in the name of Jesus,” said Jason Yarbrough, DR state director. “We continue to assess damage and are providing relief services like debris clean up, chainsaw teams to remove downed trees and helping tarp roofs, so rain cannot cause further damage.”
According to Yarbrough, teams are already at work alongside churches in Cheyenne, as well as Norman. A DR incident command center will be set up at Norman, Bethel, and Cheyenne, First already opened its doors for volunteers to help.
“Our volunteers are already meeting needs,” Yarbrough said. “We anticipate our feeding teams will be providing meals for volunteers and helping in other ways.”
