Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief (DR) will be assisting in the aftermath of the McBride fire in New Mexico. An initial DR team will depart May 1 to Ruidoso, N.M. where the fire started April 12 around 2:30 p.m. on Warrior Road, according to news reports.
The fire quickly spread into neighboring residential areas and continued to move northeast. More than 6,000 acres were burned. There were two confirmed fatalities, and 207 homes have been lost.
Don Williams, Oklahoma DR director, said plans involve sending three DR teams over the first three weeks in May.
“I know our teams will be a great help to New Mexican Baptists, as we walk alongside them, demonstrating Jesus’ love to hurt people experiencing loss,” Williams said.
