Following the destructive tornadoes that broke out across Oklahoma between Nov. 2 – 4, Oklahoma Baptists Disaster Relief (DR) has set up response on the campus of Choctaw Road Baptist Church. Within the first two days in the field, DR has received 105 work requests from homeowners.

Currently, four chainsaw teams are working in impacted areas, serving those families who homes were affected by the storms.

Oklahoma DR Director Jason Yarbrough is unsure how long DR will be deployed, but estimates they will be set up at the church for a little under a month.

“It is always hard to say how long we will need to be deployed,” said Yarbrough. “We are guessing we will be set up at (Choctaw Road) for at least 3 weeks.”

Despite the heavy workload Oklahoma DR has had the past few months with storm responses in other states, Yarbrough reassures that DR volunteers will be available to assist those with both spiritual and physical needs.

“Our volunteers are faithful to answer the call and offer themselves to serve no matter how tired we may be,” said Yarbrough. “Thank you for your continued prayers and support of this incredible Oklahoma Baptist ministry.”

Oklahoma DR volunteers continue to help responses in other states with two chainsaw teams serving in Swansboro, Georgia and one flood recovery team serving in Roswell, New Mexico.
