Amy Petersen’s goal as the ministry wives ministry partner for Oklahoma Baptists is to encourage women whose husbands serve in ministry in the more than 1,700 Oklahoma Baptist churches. She wants women to feel seen, loved and understood in their numerous roles within their families and churches, which present both amazing blessings and unique challenges.
“The ministry wife has committed her life alongside her husband to serve in ministry,” Amy said. “The good news is that Jesus enters that space to guide, help, comfort, counsel and strengthen. But it’s easy to try to serve Him in our own strength.”
Amy also works to diffuse the unrealistic expectation that in a ministry leadership position, women don’t need help or can’t seek help.
“As I serve, write and speak to ministry wives, I share honestly from my own ministry journey and walk with Jesus,” she said. “It is such a blessing when someone responds with, ‘How did you know how I feel? I felt like you were speaking just to me! Thank you.’ We need each other in community as we follow Jesus and advance the Gospel.”
Amy and her team also organize a special weekend called Ministry Wives Weekend. Ministry Wives Weekend is an annual gathering for Oklahoma Baptist ministry wives to be encouraged in connection with each other and in the truth of God’s Word. Women enjoy wonderful food, sweet fellowship and honest conversations about being rooted in Jesus as ministry wives. This year’s event will be Sept. 29–30.
Amy asks us to pray God would protect our ministry wives, husbands, families and churches. Please pray God’s wisdom over the continued building of connection and a strategy that serves ministry wives in meaningful ways and that each ministry wife will experience God in a deep and intimate way.
Pray also for Amy, her husband, Brandon, and their three sons, Max, Jake and Reed, as they serve through Oklahoma City, Quail Springs.
Because of the generous giving of Oklahoma Baptists through the Cooperative Program, an amazing array of ministries are supported. This unified giving encourages fellowship with other believers all over the world. Collectively, Oklahoma Baptists are advancing the Gospel together.
