ELK CITY—Elk City, First is “ReConnecting” with the community through Serve Elk City. This is the third Serve Elk City the church has observed in the past year and a half. The idea came from Serve Oklahoma and ReConnect through the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma.
Every Sunday School Department in the church participates in a mission project each quarter. During Serve Elk City, the entire church small group bible study (Sunday School) meets for breakfast at 7:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall. Assignments are made, and participants spend time praying for God to be glorified during the day. A prayer for the salvation of those who are being served also is offered.
On May 3, the church participated in more than 15 mission projects throughout the community. The projects included lawn work, cutting down more than 12 trees, nursing home ministry, cleaning the Western Oklahoma Family Care Center, Pregnancy Care Center, taking goodies to the Elk City Police Station, and assisting a laundry mat with free quarters and hot pads with the Gospel attached.
Lunch was served by the Beckham Mills Association Disaster Relief Food Trailer. The day was finished by cutting down a few trees around the church.
