As the 33rd season began for the Singing ChurchWomen of Oklahoma (SCW), the kick-off retreat was packed with more than music as more than 300 ladies from across Oklahoma met at Del City, First Southern.
Originating from an idea from two SCW members, the Singing ChurchWomen started an outreach project this year called Backpacks of Love. The project supplied more than 350 backpacks full of classroom resources, notes of encouragement and more.
“This project came from a desire to show encouragement and love to educators all across our state,” said Randy Lind, Oklahoma Baptists’ worship and music ministry partner. “We wanted to help them, even in a small way, with resources, and to remind them that the Singing ChurchWomen of Oklahoma are praying for them and supporting their efforts to educated the next generation.”
Lind said each member of the Singing ChurchWomen was asked to give the Backpack of Love and, if possible, take a picture with the educator.
“The response from the educators and the Singing ChurchWomen was amazing as each person was able to say ‘thank you’ for caring,” he said.
This season the Singing ChurchWomen of Oklahoma will cover the state as they advance the Gospel and share a word of hope to all who hear. To learn more about the Singing ChurchWomen and to find an upcoming schedule of their performances, visit oklahomabaptists.org/scw.
